From Anne
"When we learned of our parents', Sid & Rose, death we were living with different families in Welwyn Garden City which is where our high school was evacuated in 1939. Phyllis lived with the Aldritch Family and Anne lived with Ernest and Gladys Hatwell and their two daughters. Anne lived with the Hatwells until after they nursed her thru pneumonia. She was 12 when they decided they wanted to adopt her. Then Phyllis notified Rose's sister, Sophie. After that, all those relatives removed Anne and both girls were returned to London. Anne was never asked what she wanted. Both girls then lived with Eva and Jack Landau."
